Stillwater Man
Terms of use.
Last updated: July 2026 · applies to the Stillwater Man iOS app and stillwaterman.com
These terms are short and written to be read. By using the Stillwater Man app or this website, you agree to them. If anything here is unclear, ask us: support@stillwaterman.com.
The contracting entity is REESE SKYE LLC, an Arizona limited liability company (Arizona, USA). Email is how you reach us: support@stillwaterman.com.
What Stillwater Man is
Stillwater Man delivers one reading a day: a passage from a classic thinker, a clear idea, a line for where you are, and one practice. Premium adds voice narration for the full library, offline listening, and playlists. The daily reading is free.
It is a reading practice, not a healthcare service. Nothing in the app or on this site is a substitute for care from a qualified professional. If you are in crisis, contact local emergency services.
Your account
You sign in with an email address, and you are responsible for keeping access to that mailbox secure. You must be an adult in your jurisdiction to create an account. We may suspend or close accounts used to abuse the service (see “Fair use” below). You can ask us to delete your account at any time.
The readings and recordings
The library is drawn from public-domain writings and classic translations, together with original writing produced by us (the ideas, the lines for where you are, the practices) and audio recordings produced by us.
- Source passages are presented verbatim from their editions.
- The narration is a set of recordings we produce, each in a fitting voice chosen to suit the thinker. No recording is, or claims to be, the voice of the historical person.
- Our original writing, recordings, design, and the Stillwater Man name are protected by copyright and other rights. Personal, non-commercial use within the app is what they are licensed for.
The source writings and the translations we use are in the public domain. Choosing a fitting voice for a thinker implies no endorsement by any historical figure, their estate, or any translator.
Premium subscriptions
- Premium costs $49/year or $6.99/month, billed by Apple through your App Store account.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel any time in your Apple subscription settings; access continues to the end of the paid period.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple’s terms.
- The daily reading remains free whether or not you ever subscribe.
Because purchases go through Apple, they are also governed by Apple’s Media Services Terms, and Apple’s standard licensed-application EULA (apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula) applies wherever these terms are silent. If a price changes, Apple’s notice and consent rules apply before you are charged the new amount.
Fair use of the service
Don’t rip, scrape, or redistribute the library or the recordings; don’t resell access; don’t probe or disrupt the service; don’t use the reporting tools to send abuse. That’s the whole list — use the app the way it’s meant to be used and we will never trouble you.
What you write stays yours
Lines you write against a reading, your kept readings, and your playlists live on your device and belong to you. We claim no rights over them and, as described in the privacy policy, we cannot read them.
Disclaimers & limits
The service is provided “as is.” We aim for a quiet, reliable app, but we do not promise uninterrupted availability or that every recording is flawless (tell us when one isn’t — the players have a report control). To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before a claim, and indirect, incidental, and consequential damages are excluded to the extent Arizona law allows. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers or liability limits; where that is the case, these apply to the fullest extent permitted.
Changes
We may update these terms as the service grows. Meaningful changes will be stated plainly here with a new date at the top; continued use after a change means acceptance.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that ends up in court will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Arizona, and both of us consent to their jurisdiction.
